CoRe GT Team With Podium Result At Barcelona!
The fifth round of the third Sports Car Open season was taking place at one of the latest scanned road courses on the iRacing service – it was the 4 Hours of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. CoRe SimRacing started in this event with their GT line-up including Sindre Setsaas and Janne Kiuru while the HPD drivers Pascal Stix and Sven Neumann took over for the CoRe P2 team.
Sven qualified the CoRe HPD team in 4th while Janne, who was doing the hotlap for the GT squad, started the race from 4th position in class as well. Both drivers were able to make moves in their first stint to advance in their positions – Sindre, who started the race in GT then, came out on P1 shortly after swapping the leads with SimRC on different strategies. Sven set himself onto P2 early on, but due to issues with the traffic the CoRe HPD team fell down a couple of positions. An incident with a GTE caused damage on the car which was repaired immediately – valuable track time was lost and Pascal jumped in and continued chasing down the field.
SimRC in their BMW were able to do better laptimes and caught the CoRe GT squad again. Janne pitted earlier and changed to fresh tires while the contender was just refueling the car. At that point and on different strategies racing to the end, Janne was trying to close the gap. But nevertheless another unfortunate incident with two LMPs pushed Janne off the track and caused a slow down penalty for him. Too much time was lost due to that and a gap of 4 seconds was left. The GT team had to be happy with a solid P2 while Pascal and Sven were able to come back to a 5th position in class. The broadcast of this race can be found here.
